So basically today was a miracle. Priesthood leaders have encouraged us to write down the simple little miracles that we see take place in our lives on a daily basis. Well, today wasn't just a simple little miracle, but one that can not be measured. I was given the calling of "Luncheon Chair" through the LDS institute. Basically, I am in charge of feeding lunch to hundreds of students who walk through the institute doors on Fridays (otherwise known as lunch for a buck). Well, today was my first lunch of the school year. I was freaking out. The week turned into a basket case, felt like I never had time for anything, dreamt about crazy things like hamburger buns, and was overall stressed about it.
Sloppy joes was the menu for today's lunch. I made it very low key and simple so I could figure out how everything was going to go down. My committee consists of 5 "amazing" individuals but when it came down to start cooking, I realized I could use a few more members. However, I recruited friends to help me. Everything went well and "The rest of my buns were ok" (a little inside joke). The only thing I could have done better was to not put the salad in the freezer. Apparently when you put salad in the freezer and put it in the sun to thaw out, it turns a little slimy and not so appetizing. If that was the only thing that went wrong, I think I did pretty good.
I quickly realized that time goes by supper fast when you are preparing for something so large as this lunch. Mind you I don't know how to cook for hundreds of people, I am simply used to maybe cooking for 2 individuals. I may have stressed over this event a little too much and left little time to study for a map test for my art history class. However, I learned a valuable lesson through all of this. When you serve the Lord faithfully in the calling that has been given to you, he provides the rest (like memorizing countries and cities on a map of the middle east, which I was able to do quite well). How grateful I am to be able to experience this and learn this valuable principle. The Lord works in mysterious ways and he will always provide a way for us. We can do hard things and I am a living, walking example of that!!! There is no way I would have agreed to something this huge if the Lord didn't already know that I could come off conquerer.
